Frequently asked questions
NPC.LIFE is a tiny village that keeps living in your browser — you create one NPC and look out for them.
Is NPC.LIFE free?
Yes. NPC.LIFE is free to play, with no account and nothing to install. There are no in-app purchases required to play.
Do they really keep living when I close the tab?
Yes, in the sense that matters: nothing is ticking on a server somewhere while your tab is closed, but the world doesn't reset either. Crop growth, projects, problems, and the day itself are all worked out from real timestamps. When you open the tab again, the village catches up to right now, and your NPC tells you what happened along the way.
Is my game stored anywhere?
Your NPC and your village live only in your own browser's storage, on your device. We don't run a server that holds your game, and we can't see it.
Is it for kids?
NPC.LIFE is family-friendly, suitable for all ages — no violence, no explicit content, no chat with strangers.
How do I share it or give feedback?
There's a share button in the game itself. For feedback, questions, or just to say hello, write to hello@npclife.in — a real inbox we read.
Can I restart?
Yes. The Reset button starts a brand new life and village. It's permanent, so the game asks you to confirm first — your current NPC's history can't be recovered afterward.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. NPC.LIFE opens fast and runs on both mobile and desktop browsers, with everything reachable one-handed in portrait.
Why did something in the village change while I was away?
Because the village doesn't wait for you. Crops grow, weather passes through, projects advance, and problems get noticed and handled, all timed from real clock time rather than from your visits. Coming back and seeing what changed is a core part of the game, not a bug.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up and no login. Open the page and your village is already there.
What can I actually do in the game?
You do small kindnesses for your NPC, suggest they visit someone, point out problems around the village for neighbors to handle, help fund village projects, and nudge the village clock. Mostly, you watch.
Will my NPC ever say no to me?
Sometimes, yes. Suggestions are just that — suggestions. Your NPC's mood, personality, and what they're already doing all affect whether they go along with it. The refusals are deliberate; they're what makes them feel like a person rather than a puppet.
Is every village the same?
No. Villager names, looks, personalities, each day's small events, and the history your village builds up over time are different for every player. No one else's village looks or behaves like yours.
